Personal Consultations With Mike Nelson
"Give a person a fish and he eats for a day. Teach a person how to fish and he can eat for the rest of his life."
There are lots of people who promise to tell you how to stop cluttering. I won't try to sell you. I have been where you are - in the state of overwhelm. I've learned how to overcome my cluttering, but there are days when I slide back. Most days you could come to my house and I would not be embarrassed. But it did not happen overnight and there are no magic ten bullet points that will solve your cluttering problem.
I can help you, but you have to be motivated to change and be willing to do the work. If you are not, save your money. All a coach can do is help you see what you can't. I can help you over the phone because we need to work on what's inside, not the clutter on the outside. When you've worked on your emotional clutter, you will take care of the physical clutter.
I thought I was a hopeless clutterer. I know the challenges you face. I face them still. I've learned to change my ingrained cluttering behavior and stay reasonably organized. He doesn't promise you pie-in-the-sky rules that will keep you organized. I can teach you what I know has worked for me and for the hundreds I have worked with -- practical techniques that have worked for real clutterers like you and me.
What makes my approach different than many is that I offer you a long-term solution. Learning how to organize will not make you organized. You can learn how to make a cake, read several recipes, get all the nifty cook's tools and lay out the right ingredients, but that doesn't bake the cake. You have to use the tools, add the right combination of ingredients for your taste and do the work.
Mike will teach you how to combine the ingredients you already have and put them to the best use for you. You will have to address the underlying causes of why you clutter, learn visualization and learn to focus in very small increments of time. You will have to change your whole way of thinking about your cluttering.
Mike can help you. While he has gone to hoarder's and clutterer's houses across the nation, most his work can be done over the phone. You must commit to at least 4 weekly sessions or you are wasting your time. Cost is $50 a session (up to an hour, though usually less, it is up to you), but you must commit to at least 4 sessions. If you cannot, you are wasting your money.
